It is still a rare thing for most of us to sit with what we feel, how we feel, the reality that we carry memories and feelings from what our ancestors experienced, and that we carry our current continuous collective trauma together.

Individual Therapy

Multiculturally informed somatic psychotherapy for young adults, teens, and adults

Our work together will use tools based on cutting edge research in neuroscience, exploration of culture, social justice informed mindfulness and somatic practices, and active invitation towards play as pathways for honoring and making sense of your lived experience, accessing curiosity, and building resilience. Start where you are right now, explore where you come from, and get support for where you’re going next.

Somatic Psychotherapy uses breath, sensation, and movement to bring awareness to the body-mind system as a whole. Somatic approaches allow for experiential access to learned belief systems, encoded actions and reactions, and can provide the missing link between understanding patterns of behavior and the ability to enact effective change. Somatic psychotherapy approaches can be used to explore the ways dissociation and embodiment practices can be triggering, resourcing, or allow for greater access to present moment awareness and an empowered sense of self. Somatic work can involve gentle practices to strengthen your pathways for self inquiry and resourcing.

Social Justice Oriented I practice a client-centered, compassion-based counseling approach. I also support folks to navigate complex systems including: advocating alongside and with clients in medical and higher educations contexts, support for the medical transition process, accessing community services/programming, collaborating with medical care teams, etc.

Anti-Oppression I believe that counseling is most effective when it incorporates an awareness and understanding of power dynamics and ways cultural norms impact mental health, identity, meaning making, relationships, and crucially, what it means to engage a process of change/healing. Drawing on anti-racist work, queer theory, radical literary traditions, and multiculturally informed approaches to therapy, I emphasize social and relational equity, and the importance of personal work in surviving and dismantling oppressive systems.

Integrative I firmly believe in an integrative model of wellness. I collaborate with medical doctors, specialists, and alternative health and healing practitioners such as endocrinologists, functional medicine nurse practitioners, acupuncturists, naturopaths, psychiatrists, chiropractors, etc. to support clients’ wellbeing within a holistic model of self and community care. While therapy is important, it is also just one piece of a much larger puzzle of what it means to care for ourselves. I am happy to offer referrals when other modalities, approaches, and community resources may be beneficial.
